The 2007 Demographic Health Survey (DHS) illustrated the continued need to place family planning as a health priority. Despite active efforts by the Ministry of Health and other partners, the contraceptive prevalence rate (CPR) has stalled at 57%, with a continued high percent of women using traditional methods.
The HSSII project works on increasing access to family planning and reproductive health services through competency-based training, improved counseling, addressing provider biases, and expanding the availability of contraceptive choice and client-centered family planning services to all primary health centers and hospitals. Clinical training will be linked to service provider performance based on the current Mother and Child Health supervision system.
